Deals And Buzz

By ANTHONY CURTIS, Las Vegas Insider. For one of the best prime rib deals in Las Vegas, head to the California casino downtown. The unique prime rib special served in the coffee shop from 5 to 10 p.m. daily includes the usual choice of potato, vegetable and roll, but also two extras that set it apart: a full salad bar and a small cherries jubilee for dessert. The whole thing is just $6.99 – a top bargain. There’s a big counter if you want to get in and out in a hurry.

Ride rebate: Strip monorail riders can get $5 in free slot play by presenting their same-day ticket stub at the Connection Center Player’s Club at the Flamingo. It’s $6 for a round-trip ticket, so the giveback drops the fare to just a buck.

More poker: The poker craze marches on, with two more casinos recently adding poker rooms. You can now play at Silverton and Hilton, as well as at most other casinos on the strip.

Season over: Swim-up blackjack at the Tropicana pool has closed for the winter season. Look for it to reopen in the spring.

Lunch guarantee: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at the Mermaid Lounge at the Silverton, your lunch order is guaranteed to arrive within 20 minutes or it’s free. Additionally, you’ll get a 20 percent discount on your bill, including alcohol, during these hours. Mermaid’s serves one of Las Vegas’ best appetizer menus. Plus multipliers: If you want to play a little after your lunch at Mermaid’s, Silverton’s good slot club is offering point multipliers throughout September. Get 2X points on Mondays, 3X points on Wednesdays and 5X points on Fridays.

Question: Are there any good betting deals on football this year? Answer: Five sports books have announced special hours during which you can make bets at half the usual house edge. (Bet $10.50 to win $10, as opposed to the standard $11 to win $10). They are the Las Vegas Hilton, from 3 to 11 p.m. Thursdays; El Cortez, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays; and Arizona Charlie’s (Decatur and Boulder) and Stratosphere, Thursday nights.
